long fist kung fu
This is a collection of forms, techniques and sequences that are very fast, vigorous and acrobatic. The stances are deep alongside a predominant focus on high and acrobatic kicks, so the practitioner is constantly switching between low and high positions. Many core basics are shared with Shaolin gong fu and other northern styles, but these are merged with Tai Ji techniques and expression of powers. Wudang San Feng Pai Gong Fu has developed from many northern Chinese Influences, in particular Daoist systems from Laoshan. As such kicking and leg techniques are a core feature, and there are 36 kicks in the San Feng Pai syllabus.
In addition to the martial applications of executing fast, spinning acrobatic and powerful movements (with muscular, external strength being an additional element here), these forms are included in the Daoist training syllabus to increase fitness, strength, agility and lengthen the tendons in the body. Stances and postures are intentionally exaggerated (hence the long fist) to achieve this. Ji Ben Quan is the basic training Gong Fu form (although for new students with little or no martial arts experience, they will start learning Wu Bu Quan, a generic wushu preparation form). With this established, we can progress to explore the distinctive and more demanding Wudang Gong Fu forms, such as Fuhu Quan, Long Hua Quan and the Xuan Gong system.
