Daoshu: Wudang Daoist Arts in Oxford, UK |
teaching & Syllabus
traditional training in wudang martial arts & daoist health cultivation
While a separation will be made in the teaching offered between slower internal practices and more vigorous systems to appeal to those with different training interests, students will be encouraged and supported to study the full syllabus as uniquely happens in Wudang Shan, to allow internal and external facets to converge together for mutual benefit.
The central focus of training in all styles will be the traditional learning and repetitive practice of sequences (forms) and techniques. There will also be elements of martial application, learned through two-person drills. Daoshu's approach to self-defense is one of "defense against the self" (Olson, 2011), where both bodily technique and psychological mindset are cultivated in the practices to optimise personal safety, regard for other life and an appreciation of inter-connectedness.

visits to workshops in other uk wudang schools
The national teaching of Wudang Martial Arts is in its infancy in the UK and as such there is a small and close community between the handful of existing schools. This actually presents a unique Wudang training context internationally - while most students at Wudang Mountain in China train in either the San Feng or Xuan Wu lineages with little awareness of the other, in the UK it is possible to learn from both traditions as part of a broader training experience. The predominant focus on the San Feng lineage at Daoshu will be complimented by visits to both experienced San Feng teacher schools and workshops at the two Xuan Wu Pai schools in the south of England.
